The Dalles Emblem Club #406
The Dalles Emblem Club #406 was instituted and installed on November 9th, 1964.
There were 100 charter members.
In 1969 they gave their first scholarship to D.H.S. Senior, it was for $100.00. A Few years later they were able to give $300.00 to both The Dalles High School and Wahtonka High School senior. Now they give a $500.00 scholarship to both schools. They also give to the Literacy program at the C.G.C.C.
At the Supreme Emblem Club they donate to the scholarship fund and the disaster fund. At the State level they give to the scholarship fund and the "Pot of Gold" which is prosthesis for needy women. Locally they donate to the Senior Center, Care-A-Van, Senior Bus, the restoration of the Civic Auditorium, helped with the lighting at St. Peter's Landmark and give a campership to a 4-H and Special Olympics. They have also given Teddy Bears to both the City Police and County for their "Hug A Bear" program.
Each year the Sunday after Thanksgiving they collect canned goods for the Elks Christmas Basket program, and give monetary gifts to be used as they deem necessary.
The money earned for all of these projects is derived from Sunday Bingo, held every Sunday except during the months of July and August.
The Emblem Club on many occasions makes contributions and assists the Elks Lodge in many ways.
